New @American_Girl #AGRewards Birthday Gift Perk! Lookit!

As part of the updated AG Rewards program, American Girl® announced that (up to 4) kids (listed on adult account) could receive a free birthday gift. My niece's birthday is this month and I received a Birthday Reward email yesterday for her.

The email included a code for a Free American Girl® Book. The birthday gift may be redeemed either in-store or online. No word on whether the birthday gift book ships for free when it's redeemed online*, whether the available titles vary in-store vs. online, or whether the titles change periodically (i.e., monthly or seasonally).

Here's the small print for the offer:

*AG Rewards™ members get one (1) free book in celebration of a child's birthday; select books only. No purchase necessary. Book selection is at American Girl's discretion and varies based on age of child. Members must enter in their child's birthday(s) in their Rewards account 15 days prior to birthday month. Maximum of 4 children per member, per year. Offer code valid through 11:59 p.m. Central Time on 11/30/2018 or while supplies last. Offer valid only at American Girl® US retail locations and americangirl.com. AG Rewards members must be signed into their Rewards Account online or provide store associates their account information. To redeem this offer online, enter promo code in the box marked "offer code" at checkout; for retail store locations present the valid promo code to the sales associate at checkout. Book quantities may be limited and vary by retail location. Not valid at American Girl® Outlet location; Indigo™ or Chapters™ retail locations; Kohl's or Barnes & Noble retail locations or websites; or on orders shipping outside the U.S. Standard shipping and processing rates apply for non-promotional items. No refunds or adjustments on previous purchases, returns or exchanges, or orders in progress that have not yet shipped. Cannot be combined with other offers, substituted, or redeemed for cash. Only one (1) Rewards promo code can be redeemed in a single order. We reserve the right to limit order and item quantities, including but not limited to refusing gifts to fraudulent accounts. Unfortunately, the offer will not be extended if you are unable to order due to technical issues.

It will be interesting to see what books are available. My niece prefers the DIY crafting titles that allow one to make things for her dolls. Hopefully, she can select something like this. But we'll see when she visits tomorrow*.

*UPDATE: Tweeted @American_Girl to inquire about the terms and received a response that gift books do ship for free when redeemed online. Unless the selection in-store differs from the online choices, there is really no benefit in one redemption method over the other. Nice to know.

*UPDATE 2: I clicked through from the email to test it (but did not redeem the code, will do this later once my niece picks a title) and landed on a page listing a selection of six books rated for ages 8+. All titles seemed to be mysteries.
